Runway 34 Movie Review: The exact landing of Ajay’s film will have to be seen by tying the chair belt
Ajay Devgan directed the film Shivaay 6 years ago. Acting was also doing there and the producer himself was also there. Everyone remembers the end result….the film was a flop at the box office. Now Ajay Devgan has again taken over the role of director, is also acting and is also a producer, everything is same to same. His film Runway 34 has been released. A lot was going on in my mind before the release of the film… We have seen the film…let us also tell you whether the successful landing has been done on the runway or not.
Story
Captain Vikrant Khanna (Ajay Devgan) is a top class pilot. The experience has become so much that without a calculator, all the maths has been ingrained in his mind. With the same confidence, he has to fly a flight from Doha to Kochi in Dubai – Skyline 777. He is supported by co-pilot Tanya Elba Kirki (Rakul Preet Singh). Now the flight is flying normally, everything is going well, but 45 minutes before Kochi it is told that the weather is very bad there, strong winds are blowing and visibility is low. Now Vikrant tries landing two to three times taking ‘risk’, but does not succeed, but the fuel of the plane is definitely wasted. The danger is big, 150 passengers are on board. On top of all this, Vikrant has called the Air Traffic Controller ‘Mayday’. In technical language, it means a big emergency. Now how and under what conditions Skyline 777 is landed, what happens to the passengers present in the flight, the pilot becomes a villain or a hero…. Runway 34 will be seen searching for answers to all these aspects.
It’s called the best synergy.
First of all, let us tell you that not much was being expected from Ajay Devgan. The actors are brilliant, there is no doubt in this… but many questions were going on in the mind regarding his direction. After watching Runway 34 again this theory has been proved right that no book should be judged by its cover….sorry we mean film should not be judged on the basis of trailers or past experiences. There is a pause in the story of Runway 34….there are strong intense moments in between and yes the visuals are also excellent. The budget was not that big, so there was not much hope for VFX. But it has to be said that VFX has been used brilliantly in Ajay’s film. Meaning, from bad weather to the landing scene, at times it felt like everything was happening in real life. This feeling gave full numbers to the makers.
The other good thing is that this film is divided into two parts in a crystal clear style. The first half shows the flight of the flight and then that ‘dangerous’ landing. The second half completely reflects the investigation after that landing. It is certain that the second half has dragged on a little longer, but you cannot say that anything redundant or say, forcefully, has been shown. Every wire seems to be connecting to each other and every question gets answered by the audience till the end of the film.
All the attention on Ajay-Amitabh, right or wrong?
90 percent of the acting of Runway 34 is done by Ajay Devgan and Amitabh Bachchan only. In terms of statistics, it may seem like an overdose, but when you watch the film, the presence of both gives more pause and strength to the story. Talking about Ajay Devgan, he has not kept many dialogues with him.. The screen space is full but more than half of his work has been done by ‘eyes’. In those eyes you will see confidence, anger, fear. What else do you expect from the actor….. Rakul Preet has been given the right character. He has shown the scope he could have in the role of a pilot. Could have done better than this… of course… but would this story give that opportunity… no answer…
Amitabh Bachchan plays the role of AAIB officer Narayan Vedant in the film. This character has been such that here you will also remember Narayan Shankar of Mohabbatein and Deepak Sehgal of Pink in between. He is saying this because his runway character has a lot of use of pure Hindi like Narayan Shankar…. and powerful dialogues like Deepak Sehgal were given. Meaning his Narayan Vedanta has become a perfect combo. Some other actors have also been given proper space – Boman Irani, Akanksha Singh, Angira Dhar… but the main focus has been on Ajay and Amitabh.
And yes….this movie is based on a real event..It all happened with Jet Airways flight in 2015. Google it and you will get all the details… otherwise watch this Runway 34… with a little masala and a little drama, everything has been served on your screen.
